Alert tuning, reporting and auditing

Bob Cornelissen

MICROSOFT MVP AND MANAGING CONSULTANT AT TOPQORE

SCOM deployment – what you’ll need:

  • SCOM Management Group
    • For exercises 1 to 4, you can use any SCOM 2012 or higher management group in either test or production as no changes will be made.
    • For exercise 5, which is optional and takes place at the same time as exercise 4, you will need to download and install EasyTune, but it will run against multiple versions of SCOM. Test or lab environment is preferred. The exercise itself will not make changes in tuning to production systems.
    • Exercise 6, which is optional only and can be completed in your own time, requires SCOM 2019 UR2 as a minimum level. Since it is reporting, it can be run in test or production.

MP authoring

Serge Zuidinga & Ruud van den Hooff

MICROSOFT SENIOR CUSTOMER ENGINEER / MICROSOFT CUSTOMER ENGINEER

SCOM deployment – what you’ll need:

  • Visual Studio with Visual Studio Authoring Extensions. Serge and Ruud will be using Visual Studio 2019.
  • A new management pack with the following details:
    • Name: SCOMSPNCheck
    • Display Name: SCOM SPN Check
    • A version of SCOM Management Pack: Serge and Ruud will be using the SCOM 2016 Management Pack template. If you have a SCOM 2012 R2 environment, you could use the SCOM 2012 R2 template, but this hasn't been tested and you could run into issues along the way.

Other requirements:

  • A key to sign the Management Pack
  • A folder structure that you feel comfortable with to store all management pack elements. We recommend following a structure that you’ll find in the management pack browser via Visual Studio:
    • Health Model
    • Presentation
    • Resources/PowerShell
    • Service Model
    • Type Library

Important:

Please make sure to create the Language Pack Management Pack element containing the DisplayName and Description of the MP in advance.
