SCOMathon 2021

While we might not be able to attend our favourite tech conferences in the flesh, for those of us fortunate enough to be able to work from home, nobody says the learning has to stop here! We present you SCOMathon – the ultimate learning opportunity to find out more about all things SCOM. Get the latest updates from Microsoft, learn best practices from the experts, and find out how the rest of the awesome SCOM community is getting the most out of SCOM.

SCOMathon is a virtual SCOM community conference, organized by SquaredUp and Cookdown to enhance networking, knowledge and sharing of best practice across the global SCOM community.

What is it?

This year, SCOMathon will be a virtual conference spanning not one, but two days, across multiple time zones – from Australia to the West Coast of the United States and everywhere in between.

Microsoft MVPs, SCOM experts, and SCOM customers will come together over the internet to discuss all things SCOM, including: the latest updates, best practice tips, specific use case scenarios, and lessons learned during transition to SCOM 2019.

The virtual conference will feature speaker sessions consisting of both topic-based presentations and Q&A sessions. Come prepared to learn!

Writing custom UI for the SCOM admin console

Max Volkov

SCOM Management Pack Developer

When your management pack requires initial configuration, this might be confusing for new users. Don’t urge them to read documentation, but give them user friendly UI for immediate and intuitive results. Or, perhaps, your management pack introduces useful agent tasks. Then don’t keep your users unaware, but emphasize the value of your automation with easy-to access UI to run the tasks and visualize results.

Particular UI tasks can be:

  • Insert seed/appliance/device object instances when automatic discovery is not possible. Such as IP addresses, URLs, automation hosts, etc.
  • Present agent task results in user friendly interactive form.
  • Create/edit/delete overrides for key management pack workflows.
  • Edit rule/monitor configuration with complex syntax: lists, expressions, etc.
  • Present objects/properties/monitoring results from your management pack in custom display.
  • Add more contextual tasks and alert actions.
