APAC Keynote: Opportunities for SCOM, a reflection on The Big SCOM Survey

Richard Benwell & Bruce Cullen

Why isn’t SCOM giving you the info you want?

John Liss

Founder & CEO/Enterprise Architect @ LissProductions

SCOM generates thousands of alerts every day, but they rarely gives you the insight you need to be able to action them. In this session, John will share how you can add much-needed context to these otherwise un-actionable alerts using both PowerShell and an easier way.

NiCE Management Packs – what makes them so unique?

Christian Heitkamp

DIRECTOR PRODUCTS (CMO) NICE IT MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS GMBH

For more than ten years, NiCE is the premier partner for SCOM third-party management packs, providing the largest selection of management packs for popular applications like VMware, Microsoft 365, and Oracle to exotic UNIX and Linux monitoring requirements.

This session will give you an overview and provide details about our key management pack offerings. How does the NiCE VMware Management Pack or the Active 365 Management Pack differentiate itself from alternative solutions in the market? What are the key points to consider when developing professional Management Packs for SCOM?

We share development best practices, product roadmaps, and technical learnings. Alongside the presentation, you can ask questions to the NiCE team and receive an answer right away.

Writing custom UI for the SCOM admin console

Max Volkov

When your management pack requires initial configuration, this might be confusing for new users. Don’t urge them to read documentation, but give them user friendly UI for immediate and intuitive results. Or, perhaps, your management pack introduces useful agent tasks. Then don’t keep your users unaware, but emphasize the value of your automation with easy-to access UI to run the tasks and visualize results.

Particular UI tasks can be:

  • Insert seed/appliance/device object instances when automatic discovery is not possible. Such as IP addresses, URLs, automation hosts, etc.
  • Present agent task results in user friendly interactive form.
  • Create/edit/delete overrides for key management pack workflows.
  • Edit rule/monitor configuration with complex syntax: lists, expressions, etc.
  • Present objects/properties/monitoring results from your management pack in custom display.
  • Add more contextual tasks and alert actions.
